In addition I assume you mean Mod_Mono for apache?
I did find the Mono Project homepage, but am still reading throught the documentation. Is there a tutorial for setting up this package: (Windows XP Pro, WAMP stack, Mono, Splendid)anywhere?
For best results and the fewest problems, we recommend that you run SplendidCRM on Windows Server, IIS and SQL Server. We simply do not recommend that you try and SplendidCRM on Mono in a production environment if you have never done this before. You will not be happy with the performance and we will not be able to support you if you have a problem.
Get yourself a $300 Dell server and add the least expensive Windows Server Small Business Edition. The total cost should be under $1000 and the end result will be a reliable system that will run for many years. When you try to go too cheap, you end up with an unreliable system and the risk of losing critical company data.
If Apache is a requirement, then your best bet is SugarCRM. We have no problems running Windows Server Small Business on a public-facing internet connection. We have been doing this for years and we have not had a single virus. Your fear of Windows security is not warranted.
As I said before, I am not anxious to get into another server, platform and series of security issues. Viruses are the least of my worries when it comes to server security. I am more worried about customer information being hacked and used maliciously (ID theft). We do financing and we store SSN's, etc. Windows server software has many (and more undiscovered) security holes that are well documented. This is the reason that Apache has gained the reputation of being nearly "bullet-proof" when the administrator properly (and simply) sets certain permission parameters on the htdocs file.
As I also previously stated, we are looking for a NON-enterprise solution for only 2-4 persons. I simply cannot justify to the GM spending a thousand dollars plus training expenses when we already have a perfectly acceptable web-server already running.
Therefore, I am trying to discover if it is possible to set up this package on the system we presently use or not. It sounds like, from what you dscribe, that it may be better to go with a package that was built around the LAMP/WAMP stack.
Thanks for the time and advise. I hope your project does well.
Honestly, if you don't like Windows, then don't run it. SplendidCRM is for companies that like Windows.
Still, I would like to know why you are even considering SplendidCRM when SugarCRM seems to meet your platform requirements. Why are you avoiding SugarCRM?
