The open-source version is free.  The source code to the ASP.NET code is included and you may modify it all you want.  The source code to the SQL is not include and, therefore, cannot be modified.  This means that you can make some customizations, but a major module change or addition will likely require the Professional license.

I have been tinkering with your open source version, and so far so good, thanks for a great product to work with.

I'm sure it's just me, but I'm still a little fuzzy on the licensing. I was putting a plan for introducing SplendidCRM here at work (we’re an in house IT shop, not an IT vendor btw), please correct me if I'm wrong:

1. No cost: deploy CRM as is (obviously some changes via admin tool) to small user base
2. If all goes well, deploy to wider user base, still no cost
3. If product is accepted, purchase required licensing?? <<-- only needed if we desire to make enhancements requiring SQL modifications?

Question: since we’re in house IT, we would need to license for as many users using the product; if we were an IT vendor, we would only need to license for developers (or anyone with access to the product), correct? This is due to the exposure of the what would normally be encrypted in SQL? Not trying to get nit picky because I’m sure management will like the pricing anyway, but the only ones with access to the SQL will be our developers because we’d only have the exposed SQL on our dev boxes, not our test or production ones. Otherwise, I assume that if I have 5 developers working on it, and we have 29 users, I would need to purchase 40 licenses (rounded up)?

Thanks, oh, btw, I have come across a couple of quirks that may be bugs, where would I post those? Didn't see a bugs forum, but that could be my fuzzy vision.

When the time comes that you do need the Professional license, please keep in mind that we charge for users, developers and QA.  So, you would need 40 licenses.  When you a ready, please contact our sales team as we do give quantity discounts.
