Status of this project

Hi all,

We've been looking at SugarCRM and InfoAtHand (a Sugar derivative) but have been turned off by the platform .. we're a Microsoft shop and don't know PHP or Linux.

So SplendidCRM looks like a good option for us, platform wise.

But there's very little information on the web site.  How much does the functionality differ from Sugar?  Is there actually a feature list somewhere?  Most of the modules seem to be there, but is there depth missing in them? (a 5 minute look revealed no gantt charts in projects, cannot print quote/invoice to pdf, little but important things like this)

Is the roadmap to continue porting Sugar changes in over time, or to diverge the feature sets?  I've noticed in the demo it says "powered by SugarCRM" but is this really true? (ie. is there shared code?).  Sounds to me more like Inspired by SugarCRM ?

Also I'm wondering how robust it is ... I get errors in the demo site just adding an account and various other actions ("Implicit conversion from data type nvarchar to varchar is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query.") .. so I'm wondering if this is a serious production-ready application or still a work in progress?

Thanks
Jammin

We are working hard to duplicate all of the features in SugarCRM Professional, but some features take longer than others.  Our current release compares favorably to SugarCRM 4.5 Pro.

One missing feature is a workflow engine. Our plans for workflow are rather ambitious.  We are working to integrate with Windows Workflow Foundation.

As for gantt charts, you will have to implement this yourself.  We have added support for Silverlight and converted the flash-based graphs.  The best part is that we have provided an approach that would make it relatively easy for you to create your own charts.

As for PDF invoices, it is currently possible, but a bit complicated.  We currently allow you to import an RDL file and render via the ReportViewer.  Our next release aims to provide some samples for printing Quotes, Orders or Invoices.

We currently include the “powered by SugarCRM” because we use their images and style sheets and that is required by their license.  Otherwise, there is no real SugarCRM code in SplendidCRM.

The demo site is running our latest 2.1 beta.  It is regrettable that you are seeing these errors, but it does help us find bugs before we ship the final build.

On the subject of charts, Visifire has recently released a number of cool Silverlight charts.

Had a look at visifire - all seems pretty neat in principle. However as with all 3rd party controls or addins there will be some implementation overhead - but I guess that is to be expected. The main issue is that visifire is released under GPLv3 which is an incompatible license with the Sugar License ( SPL) that Splendid is released under. If you can figure out a way round that then of course anything that makes charting easier and prettier would be of interest. Meanwhile Splendid's DIY charting approach is pretty good because you can basically do anything with the xaml. Over time I would imagine that ppl in the community who develop new charts and stuff will submit them back for everybody to use - the silverlight/xaml stuff is still pretty new though in Splendid so it may take a little while.

Any more plans for workflow yet?

I hope your plans aren't so ambitious that they are too big to handle (I have some like that!)

Also, I hope integrating with WWF doesn't make this too complicated!
