It sounds like you changed the IIS setting from Anonymous Authentication to Windows Authentication.  Change it back to Anonymous Authentication and you should be all set. If you are not familiar with using IIS, you can use the SplendidCRM Configuration Wizard to change to Anonymous Authenti...

If you created the custom field as an integer field, then you will need to delete it and create again as a text field with a width of 50.  If it is already a text field, then just change existing values from numeric to text.

Define the custom field as a text field and use a list that has the same saved value as display value.  This is how SplendidCRM handles most status fields.
