Getting Started -- New Development
Posted: 28 Jul 08 8:31 AM

I am beginning a project to migrate a business onto SplendidCRM.  I am looking for the best way to get started into understanding SplendidCRM and modifying it as necessary.  The business has thousands of small customers (individuals) that are unrelated (not a business model with fewer customers that may have several contacts per customer).

My plan was to start looking at Leads, then follow the code through Conversion into a Contact and then check the relationships built for Projects, etc.  Is there a better method (such as starting with Accounts) for getting my feet wet in SplendidCRM development.  I am a already a C#/ASP.Net programmer.

Thank you,

Brian

An account is generally thought of as a customer.  A lead can be a customer, but usually is not.  That said, the guiding factor should be how your end-user wants the system to work.  If the end-user would prefer to start out with a CRM that just has a few key accounts, then go that route.  If the end-user would prefer to have all existing customers as an account, then do that.  One benefit to bringing in all existing customers as an account is that you can also bring in all previous orders.
