You should be able to hide the home tab or the Accounts tab from the Admin area. If your menu does not change, then you may need to either reload the cache or logout then login. We cache tons of information and there may be times when the cache is not properly reset during a change.
As for adding a custom module, you really need the SQL code that comes with the Professional and Enterprise editions.
As for portal links on the menu, we don't support that. We simply had so few request for the feature that we did not implement it.
I tried System Check/ Reload, as well as net stop iisadmin and iisreset commands on the server. Nothing seems to affect the Tab Menus, even though I have some of the menus turned off in "Configure Tabs"
Maybe that's a hidden restriction on the community edition.
