We are still working on the feature list. One customer requested that we call it 2.0 so that the next release would be 2.1 and would be free to them, but would cost more for 1.4 and prior customers. It is a tough decision.
If you have an opinion, please voice it now.

I thought on read on some thread that you are close to beta on a new release. Wouldn't the features be nailed down at such a late stage?
Anyhow, regarding majr vs minor release, it will depend on the extent of the changes. If extensive, you can justify a major version. Assuming normal development cycles, it is normal to releae a major version per year.
To soften the effect on your existing professional licenses, you may want to offer an upgrade license at a lower price.
I would think that a complete break from the original sugar source would warrant a 2.0 - I mean not only from a technical perspective but also from a design perspective. While splendid would still be a "derivative" it would be classed under Larger Works - While credit should still be given to Sugar as the initial developer I feel that Splendid is a strong enough open-source project to stand as a seperate entity from Sugar - indeed they are already digressing at a rapid rate - not much of the original Sugar is left.
In the meantime I reckon the next one would be 1.5.

We will at some point hopefully before the final release of 1.5 produce a plain vanilla easy to mod theme that uses none of the original Sugar graphics or styles - but obviously we need the Beta to get it stable and submit back to the OS ;-) We may call it "Sugar Free", "Diet" or "Saccharin" *chuckles*
