Half my users will be FireFox on MAC so if I end up going forward with Splendid (which looks likley) I will be modifying the javascript and will post my mods in the forums.
I can see the benefit of exchange integration for those that already use SBS or otherwise have exchange available but it would be nice if it was modular enough that if I write a plugin for MailEnable it can...well plugged in as well :)
Does this form support Polls? Finding out the most common mail servers used by Splendid users would be a good place to start.

I would like to chime in with my support for MailEnable. I know that Exchange has a large base, but that base is slanted more towards the market that will opt for higher end solutions. MailEnable has a large windows base, is easy to install, and the price is right.

I am considering SplendidCRM because we are a .NET development house, and therefore would be better able to support / customise the application. We run Windows Server everywhere, and have existing MSSQL servers.
However we don't use Exchange, and I don't think we are alone there!
I have also looked at MS CRM, and it's reliance on Exchange is one of the (many) things against it!
Therefore I think a process that uses standard mail protocols like POP / IMAP is not a hack, but a very sensible approach.

Thanks for the feedback. What email system do you use?

Has the development team made any decisions about email support? My vote still goes for support of standard protocols (pop/imap)
I thought I would add another issue to this discussion. I have a couple of SugarCRM installs and I ran into a serious issue trying to connect to Gmail mailboxes. GMail provides POP3 and SMTP but both use SSL. I finally got it working in SugarCRM after upgrading PHP to 5.2.2 but it was very annoying.
If SplendidCRM ends up not supporting POP3 then Google Apps for Your Domain users will be among the many left out in the cold.
Cheers
